The phone call in the beginning broke my heart. I'm really glad Zachariah tried to manipulate Dean again, so that the future we're getting to see won't happen.

How like John Winchester was apocalypse!Dean? How much worse than him? It's so sad that he didn't even think of the real reason 2009!Dean went wrong, that he was only set on needing power and thus, surrendering to Michael. He was so far disconnected from himself, it was painful to watch. Also, not only did it show how much Dean needs Sam, but also how much he needs Bobby. Apocalypse!Dean would have been a different person id he'd still had Bobby. (Also? The car. Everything anyone needed to know about this Dean could be gleaned by the state of the car.)

The decoy plan. Who is to say they wouldn't have agreed to it, if it was the only way to kill the devil? So. Cold. But a wonderful way to have Dean shock himself.

Random aside - talking to Castiel and then Sam, 2009!Dean looks younger, as if the time without Sam really has done him some good. Possibly it's because of the shave. But, while each and every bit of acting Jensen Ackles did in this episode was superb, apocalypse!Dean also looked too young to be five years older. Especially with the life he'd been leading, it should have showed more.

How many people caught the newspaper mentioning "President Palin"? WTF?!?

Human!Cas is a complete whack-job. I get that his whole life since pretty soon after the creation of everything went to shit, but wow. Totally out there. Yet how hilarious was it that only last ep, Dean was trying to have angel!Cas lose his virginity, and the next thing we know, he's having orgies?

So much love for angel!Cas. Poor dejected baby in the beginning, and later almost earning a hug by his perfect timing. Although seeing as how Dean didn't hug Sam, I'm glad Cas didn't get one, either.

How absolutely beautiful was Lucifer? I like how, since never got to see Sammy in the beginning, the impact was so much greater when the first time we get to see him all episode (and the first time Dean sees him since they split up!) it's not him. No trace of Sammy there, at all. Even the puppy!look looked different. Fabulous acting by Padalecki there, with the exact same mannerisms as temporary!vessel devil.

Ah, Lucifer. He just wants to be understood! And he loves the Earth, but without humans! He needs more human friends! I'm a bit confused why he killed apocalypse!Dean - great way to shut him up for his talk with 2009!Dean, true, but if Dean's so fascinating, wouldn't keeping him around have some entertainment value? Or something? I don't know, I just feel that there's something left unresolved.

It's interesting how no-one, no-one, throughout the whole episode mentioned that Dean should never have abandoned Sam. Apocalypse!Dean was too far gone, Cas too stoned, Bobby not around, Chuck - I don't know; Zachariah has a one-track mind, and reconnecting with Sam is probably the last thing Lucifer wants Dean to do. And yet it's all Dean heard. Bad timing, Zachariah - you'd have had better luck if you'd snatched Dean before that phone call.

Sam must be getting whip-lash from the way Dean's acting. There's more than one brother, now, who's got some rebuilding of trust to do. I'm glad there was a real apology, although, as always, there needs to be a story-telling. And the lesson I'm really, really glad Dean learned - without Dean, Sam will say yes to Lucifer eventually, but without Sam, Dean, eventually, will also no longer be human. And he said it to Sam, even though without the full story Sam cannot know what he really means.

So now they're together again, and Dean's got his priorities straight. Making their own future because they've got no choice - Sam, that's the choice, you sad puppy dumbass.

Looking forward to next week!
