Supernatural 5.06
Oct. 16th, 2009 09:20 pm40 minutes of pure awesomeness. This started off as pretty old-school episode and then packed a lot of punches. Commenting as I go:
Yummy FBI boys in town! Dean's got every child's number, and them going all sciency on the ham cracked me up. The new teamwork policy seems to be going well! I'm glad it stayed that way throughout the episode.
The tooth fairy taking all the teeth was gross, but I was afraid the little girl would later have to think she got her father killed by placing her tooth under his pillow, so that was waay better.
Flirty Dean making Sam go *eyeroll*! Jensen making funny faces! And wow, stuff people believe in coming true, why am I thinking of a Pratchett novel?
Am I to think little!Dean believed in masturbation tales? Or just that some kid in the vicinity does?
I can't believe the kid let the boys in after Dean's speech. Seriously, Dean, would you have trusted yourself?? You're lucky you've got Sammy's big ol' trust-me face back with you!
I love me some smart!Dean like he's shown in this episode, making all these connections real fast. Even if he's scaring his brother to death in the process. Even if for some reason Sam has to spell everything out afterwards - the writers don't trust the audience to make the same leaps?
Why did they immediately search for the birth parents? The adoptive parents could have had something to do with it?
I like the Mommy. Julia, is it? Nice to see salt thrown at the boys by people they're not expecting it from. Not all demon nastiness revolves around the Winchesters! Only - virgin birth? Seriously? How does that even work? Are you sure there wasn't another possessed someone, and Julia is just better off not remembering?
Seems Gordon Walker was wrong, and Sam really isn't the Antichrist. I feel this is all a bit out of the blue, but whatever. Why does having a demon parent automatically mean you need killing? *Listens to Cas' speech* I think the boys need to adopt Jesse. Also, I'm getting Adam Young vibes from the kid - so not just Pratchett, but Pratchett combined with Gaiman.
Aw, Sammy. Transference much? Kid's a bit too young for all that responsibility!
Fuck. The poor Mommy. Sloppy work, boys. You should have shown your tattoos to the Mommy.
Castiel. Don't tell me you're surprised on your shelf there - no-one would have bought that. You need to practice the SammySmile! At least Jesse has proof now. Bobby=Xavier fot the win! But please don't kill the Mommy, Winchesters.
Demons lie so beautifully, especially when they're telling it laced with truth. It's so hard listening to Sam talking to Jesse - it's everything he wishes he could tell his own younger self, but it's too much pressure on Jesse who is a real life little kid right now. Scratch the adoption plan - he can fight the next fight when he's older, meanwhile he's much better off in Australia.
So the boys both wish John had lied to them? Sadly, John lying to you would have left you woefully unprepared. But how big a step was that admission for Dean Winchester?
As I said, awesome episode! Best of all, the boys are working well together, even if they're still working out issues by using a kid as a proxy - no fight, no suspicions, no secrets! And Sam called both of them freaks! I'm glad he didn't just lay it all on himself at that moment.
Looking forward to next week! (Or when does that hiatus start?)
